Pope John Paul blessing the Statue

Greetings:

Dear Faithful of Pescasseroli. You are gathered here on this occasion of the 250th Anniversary of the Crowning of the Icon of the Madonna venerated in this community and I thank you for this visit. I encourage you to look for the roots of this devotion in your religious history to promote new interest in the devotion and stimulate interest into greater evangelical testimony.

John Paul II (13, November 2002)

Faithful:

At the end of this unforgettable Marian year, 2002. I feel a duty to express a joyous gratitude to many. I thank Holy Pontiff John Paul II and the other 800 faithful of Pescasseroli that met with the Pope on the 13th of November. The entire community has lived an exceptional, enthusiastic and historic meeting. This has begun a new, vigorous Christian walk of faith.

I acknowledge a fond regard to all the people that participated and prayed with us and contributed to make us live those radiant days of glory on September 7th and 8h. In particular, I want to express a thank you in the name of the community of Pescasseroli to Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re and Archbishop Gennaro Prata and Bishop Lucio Renna and Bishop Martino Canessa and all the priests and religious present that work in the parish. A sincere thank you to our (Minister) politician Antonio Marzano and the civil authorities of Foggia and Pescasseroli and the people responsible for the National Park of Abruzzo. I thank our groups associated with the Incoronata and the Carmine and also those from Opi and Barrea. Recognition goes to the town committee; the choir, the Alpine (Mountain) Soldiers and the (Carabinieri) police, the Sport Society and many that have been a part of this collaboration.

But, in addition a very warm thank you to my faithful for the meticulous organization, generous and moving participation that made 2002 extraordinary. Not since the days of my ordination as a priest did I feel greater joy. I am proud and grateful. Bravo!

Now, looking foreword with an enthusiastic heart from this remembrance I see the year 2003 is meant to be lived in a grander style. We must continue our compelling walk of life. In the words of the shepherds: "Tired of walking ... they started running"

Thank you and we will all move foreword in Jesus and Mary.

Don Vincenzo
